Don't Keep My Ashes
Poetry
Don’t keep my ashes
An old pile of bones
That never saw better days,
That weren’t spent at home.
Instead keep my picture
So you can smile with me.
Smile because the pain is gone
Because I’m finally free.
No, don’t bring that pile of old bones home
Where it will sit on a shelf
Reminding you I’m gone.
Instead keep my picture
Look at the glint in my eye
And remember it’s temporary
Not a long goodbye.
